The Teltonika RUT956 is a professional industrial cellular router designed for demanding IoT, M2M, industrial automation, transportation, and smart city applications. Combining 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, wired networking, and GNSS positioning capabilities, the router delivers reliable connectivity for both fixed and mobile installations. Powered by LTE Cat 4 technology, the RUT956 supports download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps, while automatic fallback to 3G and 2G networks ensures stable communication even in areas with inconsistent mobile coverage. This Global LTE version supports a wide range of international frequency bands for worldwide deployment. Supported LTE-FDD bands include B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B13, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, and B28, while LTE-TDD support includes B38, B39, B40, and B41.
Additional support for multiple 3G and 2G bands ensures compatibility with operators across different regions. The router features dual SIM connectivity with automatic failover and backup WAN scenarios based on signal strength, roaming, data limits, or connection failure. Additional mobile networking functions include operator allow and block lists, multiple PDN support, automatic APN configuration, band management, SMS utilities, and mobile WAN passthrough. Wireless connectivity is provided through Wi-Fi 4 with Access Point and Station modes supporting up to 100 simultaneous users. Advanced features such as wireless mesh, fast roaming, hotspot functionality, WPA2/WPA3 security, MAC filtering, and QR code login help ensure secure and flexible wireless networking.
Advanced Network Control
The Teltonika RUT956 is built for advanced industrial networking applications where secure communication, remote management, and uninterrupted connectivity are essential. The router includes four Fast Ethernet ports consisting of one WAN and three LAN ports with auto MDI/MDIX support for flexible network integration. Running on RutOS, an OpenWrt-based operating system, the device supports advanced routing protocols including BGP, OSPF v2, RIP, EIGRP, NHRP, and policy-based routing. To ensure reliable operation, the RUT956 supports automatic WAN failover, load balancing, and multiple backup connectivity options including mobile, Wi-Fi WAN, VRRP, and wired WAN. Built-in connection monitoring functions such as Ping Reboot, Wget Reboot, periodic reboot, and link inspection help maintain network uptime in mission-critical environments.
Additional tools including QoS, traffic monitoring, DNS over HTTPS, hotspot management, and network topology visualisation provide enhanced network control and diagnostics. Security features are designed for industrial and enterprise deployments. The router supports configurable firewall rules, NAT, NAT64, VLAN separation, flexible access control, and protection against DDoS attacks, SSH attacks, and port scanning attempts. Authentication methods include X.509 certificates, TACACS+, RADIUS authentication, and certificate management tools. The RUT956 also supports a broad range of VPN technologies including OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, GRE, PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, ZeroTier, DMVPN, and Tinc. Multiple VPN clients and servers can operate simultaneously, enabling secure remote access and encrypted communication between remote sites and devices.
Rugged Design
Designed for industrial automation and telemetry applications, the Teltonika RUT956 combines rugged hardware with extensive connectivity and control interfaces. The router includes RS232 and RS485 serial interfaces, USB 2.0 connectivity, GNSS positioning support, and configurable digital and analog I/O interfaces for integration with sensors, PLCs, alarms, and industrial equipment. Supported GNSS systems include GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and QZSS, enabling accurate positioning, tracking, and time synchronisation services. Industrial protocol support includes Modbus TCP/RTU, MQTT, DNP3, DLMS/COSEM, OPC UA, and BACnet, making the router suitable for smart energy, industrial monitoring, and SCADA applications. Support for HTTP(S), MQTT, Azure MQTT, and custom Lua scripting enables flexible automation and data collection projects.
The built-in I/O Juggler feature allows customised automation scenarios and event-based actions triggered by digital or analog inputs. The router is housed in a durable aluminium enclosure with IP30 protection and operates in temperatures from -40 °C to 75 °C. Measuring 110 x 50 x 100 mm and weighing 287 g, the device supports DIN rail, wall, and flat surface mounting. Power is supplied through a 4-pin industrial connector supporting 9 - 30 VDC input voltage with surge and reverse polarity protection. Passive PoE over spare pairs is also supported for flexible installation. Remote management is simplified through RMS, SNMP, TR-069, MQTT, JSON-RPC, AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub, and Cumulocity integration, allowing remote monitoring, firmware updates, diagnostics, and configuration management across large device deployments.
