Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network or GPON
GPON is a point-to-multipoint access connector that provides users with the ability to merge multiple services into one single fiber transfer network. To help this technology work, many devices are used to support the network, such as optical splitters, ONT, ONU, and OLT. A single GPON network can reach distances of up to 20 km and connect up to 64 users. A GPON system is made up of an OLT (optical line terminal) that connects various optical network terminals (ONT/ONU) in conjunction using a passive optical distribution network.
