The Ubiquiti WaveFiber ONU is a high-performance optical network unit (ONU) designed for deployment in GPON fiber networks, offering robust, high-speed internet access to residential and commercial users. Operating in compliance with the ITU-T G.984 GPON standard, the WaveFiber ONU supports downstream speeds of up to 2.488 Gbps and upstream speeds of up to 1.244 Gbps, ensuring seamless video streaming, cloud applications, and low-latency online gaming. The device features one GPON SC/APC fiber port and one 1G RJ45 Ethernet LAN port, enabling direct connection to customer devices or routers. Compact and efficient, this ONU delivers excellent performance with minimal power consumption (less than 3W typical), making it ideal for large-scale fiber rollouts. It integrates effortlessly with Ubiquiti’s Wave OLT systems and is a key component for scalable, cost-effective FTTH deployments. The Ubiquiti WaveFiber ONU is designed for long-term stability and scalability in next-generation fiber networks. With support for a 20 km maximum transmission distance (depending on optical budget and fiber type), it is well-suited for both urban and rural deployments. The ONU offers automatic laser shutdown in case of fiber disconnection to protect the optics and ensure network safety.

Engineered for easy installation and management, the WaveFiber ONU supports auto-discovery and remote provisioning via standard OMCI (ONT Management and Control Interface) protocols. It can be seamlessly integrated into existing GPON infrastructure, allowing ISPs to manage large fleets of ONUs efficiently. The unit is plug-and-play, with LED indicators for power, PON status, and LAN activity, providing instant status feedback. The WaveFiber ONU features a compact polycarbonate enclosure measuring 76.5 × 76.5 × 26.4 mm and weighing 78 g, making it suitable for discreet placement in customer premises. It supports both desktop and wall mounting, allowing installers to choose the most appropriate position for each deployment. Power is supplied exclusively through 24V passive PoE using two pairs, with a supported input range of 20–28V DC and maximum power consumption of 5W. This simplifies installation by carrying power through the network connection without requiring a separate local power adapter. The unit is designed to operate at temperatures from -15°C to 45°C and relative humidity from 10% to 90% without condensation.
