Stable LTE Performance
The Teltonika RUT981 is a robust global 4G router designed to deliver stable and long-term connectivity across diverse network environments. Powered by a reliable Telit LTE Cat 4 modem, it ensures consistent performance with download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps. For broader compatibility, the router supports fallback to 3G networks with speeds up to 42 Mbps download and 5.76 Mbps upload, as well as 2G connectivity for legacy coverage scenarios. To ensure uninterrupted communication, the RUT981 supports dual SIM functionality alongside consumer-grade eSIM technology. The device can store up to seven eSIM profiles, enabling flexible operator selection without physical SIM replacement. The eSIM bootstrap feature allows quick and convenient initial profile download directly to the device, simplifying deployment processes in distributed environments. Data plans are not included.
Network continuity is further enhanced by WAN failover and load balancing capabilities. These features ensure that traffic is automatically redirected to a backup connection in case of failure, while load balancing distributes network traffic across multiple links to optimize performance and reliability. This makes the router ideal for mission-critical applications such as remote monitoring, industrial automation, and enterprise networking. With support for both Wi-Fi and wired connectivity, including four Ethernet ports, the RUT981 provides flexible integration into existing infrastructures. Its combination of performance, redundancy, and global compatibility makes it a dependable solution for professional networking scenarios.
Smart Network Control
The RUT981 offers extensive networking functionality designed for scalable and complex infrastructures. It supports a full range of routing options, including static routing and advanced dynamic protocols such as BGP, OSPF v2, RIP v1/v2, EIGRP, and NHRP. Policy-based routing enables administrators to define specific traffic paths based on rules, ensuring efficient use of network resources. The router supports a wide array of network protocols, including TCP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, MQTT, SNMP, and many others, allowing seamless integration into diverse IT and IoT ecosystems. VoIP passthrough support with H.323 and SIP-alg NAT helpers ensures proper handling of voice traffic, making it suitable for communication systems.
Wireless performance is enhanced with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi featuring 2x2 MIMO technology, providing improved signal quality and throughput. The device supports Access Point and Station modes and can handle up to 100 simultaneous users. Advanced wireless features include mesh networking (802.11s), fast roaming (802.11r), BSS transition management (802.11v), and radio resource measurement (802.11k), ensuring stable connectivity in dynamic environments. Security and traffic control are managed through VLAN segmentation, QoS, and Smart Queue Management, which prioritize data based on multiple parameters. Dynamic DNS support with over 77 providers simplifies remote access, while DHCP functionality allows flexible IP management. This combination of routing flexibility, protocol support, and wireless performance makes the RUT981 a powerful networking solution for enterprise and industrial deployments.
Industrial Reliability
The RUT981 is built on a reliable hardware platform optimized for long-term operation in industrial environments. It is powered by a Mediatek 580 MHz MIPS 24KEc processor, combined with 128 MB DDR2 RAM and 32 MB NOR flash storage, ensuring stable performance and efficient data processing. The device runs RutOS, an OpenWrt-based Linux operating system that provides extensive customization and development capabilities, supporting languages such as Busybox shell, Lua, C, and C++. Security is a central component of the router’s design. It includes a configurable firewall with NAT, NAT-T, NAT64, and DMZ support. Advanced attack prevention mechanisms protect against DDoS attacks and port scanning attempts. Authentication methods include pre-shared keys, X.509 certificates, TACACS+, and RADIUS integration, along with login attempt blocking and time-based access control.
The router also features Data to Server functionality, enabling data collection from multiple sources and protocols and forwarding it to a centralized server. Custom Lua scripting allows advanced automation and integration. The Modbus MQTT Gateway enables communication between MODBUS devices and MQTT brokers, supporting industrial IoT applications. Management is available through Web UI, CLI, and FOTA updates, with detailed logging for system, kernel, and event data. The device includes digital input and output interfaces for integration with external systems. Housed in a durable aluminium enclosure with IP30 protection, the RUT981 ensures reliable operation. Flexible power options and low power consumption further enhance its suitability for industrial deployments.
