Enterprise NAS Storage
Ubiquiti ENAS is a 3U rack-mount Enterprise NAS built around sixteen 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDD/SSD bays and two M.2 NVMe SSD bays. This drive layout gives the appliance a broad storage foundation within a single chassis, while SSD cache support allows NVMe storage to participate directly in the system’s storage workflow. The platform is powered by an eight-core ARM N2 processor running at 2.4 GHz and includes 64 GB of memory, providing dedicated hardware resources for its storage and software functions. Two SFF-8644 expansion ports are also available for extending the storage system through the appliance’s supported expansion interface.
ENAS supports both file- and block-based storage access. NFS and SMB provide file protocol support, while iSCSI is available for block storage. Personal and shared drives give administrators different ways to organize stored content, and user groups provide a structured method for managing access across multiple users. Share links offer a direct way to make selected content available when broader drive access is not required, while client app support provides another supported route for interacting with the system. Together, these functions make ENAS more than a collection of drive bays: the hardware platform, file and block protocols, user organization, and sharing tools are integrated into one rack-mounted storage appliance for centralized data access and management.
High-Speed Network Access
ENAS provides multiple Ethernet interfaces for connecting storage services to networks operating at different link speeds. Two SFP28 ports support 25G, 10G, and 1G connections, while the RJ45 interface supports 10G, 5G, 2.5G, 1G, and 100M Ethernet. This gives the appliance two high-speed SFP28 links alongside a multi-gigabit copper connection, allowing its network interface choice to match the connection types explicitly supported by the system. A separate management Ethernet interface is provided for device administration, keeping management connectivity available independently of the main SFP28 and RJ45 storage-facing interfaces. Bluetooth 4.1 is included as the RF interface.
The appliance is designed for 3U rack installation and supports four-post racks with square mounting holes. Its rails support 600 mm rack depth, with compatible post depths ranging from 600 to 1066 mm, making rack compatibility an important consideration before installation. Power is supplied through two AC inputs and two hot-swappable 550 W AC/DC power modules, with power redundancy supported by the system. The maximum drive power budget is 450 W, while maximum system power consumption is 550 W. Front-panel status indication covers Ethernet, SFP28, HDD, system, CRPS, and expansion-port states, giving administrators direct visual feedback for the main interfaces, storage activity, and power system during operation. Optional front-panel choices include the 3U Bezel and 3U Bezel Lite.
Data Protection
ENAS combines several storage-protection functions within the same platform. Supported RAID options include Mirror, RAID-Z1, RAID-Z2, and RAID-Z3, and the system can operate with multiple RAID groups. Hot spare support adds a standby-drive option to the storage configuration, while snapshots provide a way to preserve recoverable states of stored data. File encryption adds another protection layer for files held on the appliance. These capabilities can be used alongside the system’s personal and shared storage structure without changing the underlying access model, allowing protection and recovery functions to remain part of the same NAS environment rather than being handled as separate external features.
Backup options extend beyond the local chassis. ENAS supports backup to a remote UNAS as well as to a CIFS/SMB server, giving the appliance network-based destinations for secondary copies. Cloud backup is available for Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, and Wasabi, providing a range of supported online destinations from the same storage platform. Time Machine backup is also supported for compatible workflows. By combining local RAID choices, hot spare capability, snapshots, encryption, remote backup, cloud destinations, and Time Machine support, ENAS brings day-to-day storage protection and backup into one system. Buyers can therefore evaluate not only drive capacity and connectivity, but also how the appliance fits their preferred protection and backup approach.
