1U Network Storage
The Ubiquiti UNAS Pro 4 is a 1U rack-mount network-attached storage system designed for centralized file storage with high-speed network access. Its four front-accessible bays accept 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDDs and SSDs, allowing the storage media to be selected according to capacity and performance requirements. Two additional M.2 NVMe slots provide dedicated cache support with up to 4 TiB of supported NVMe capacity. By separating primary drive storage from solid-state cache, the system can combine conventional disk arrays with faster access to frequently used data while retaining a compact rack footprint and organized hardware layout.
The appliance connects to the network through two 10G SFP+ interfaces intended specifically for 10 Gbps operation. These ports provide dual high-bandwidth links for storage traffic, while a separate Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port is reserved for management. This division keeps administration access distinct from the main data connections and gives installers a clear interface layout when integrating the NAS into an existing network. Processing is handled by a quad-core Arm Cortex-A57 processor running at 2.0 GHz, supported by 8 GB of memory. Together, the rack format, flexible drive bays, NVMe cache slots, and dedicated network interfaces make the unit suitable for organized storage deployments where space efficiency and clearly separated data and management connectivity are important.
Data Management Tools
UNAS Pro 4 supports RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10 within a single RAID group, giving administrators several ways to balance usable capacity and data protection. The available RAID modes allow the installed drives to be arranged according to the priorities of the storage environment rather than forcing one fixed configuration. NFS and SMB file protocols enable the appliance to provide shared storage across compatible networked systems. Personal and shared drives can be created for different access needs, while user groups help organize permissions for teams or separate sets of users.
The storage software also includes file encryption, snapshots, and share links. Encryption protects stored files within the supported software environment, while snapshots provide point-in-time copies that can assist with recovering earlier data states. Share links offer a direct way to provide access to selected content without changing the overall folder structure. Backup destinations include another remote UNAS system, a CIFS or SMB server, supported cloud services, and Time Machine. These choices allow backup plans to be aligned with the storage resources already available at the site or elsewhere. By combining shared file access, structured user management, snapshots, encryption, and several backup targets, the appliance provides a consolidated platform for storing, organizing, protecting, and transferring business or personal files across the network.
Installation and Power
The steel enclosure is designed for installation in a four-post rack and occupies one rack unit. It supports racks with post depths from 600 to 1066 mm and uses 600 mm rails with 9.5 × 9.5 mm square mounting holes. These defined mounting requirements help installers confirm rack compatibility before deployment and position the appliance within standard equipment cabinets. The chassis measures 442.4 × 400 × 43.7 mm and weighs 6.7 kg, information that is useful when planning rack space, rail support, safe handling, and the physical placement of surrounding equipment during installation.
An internal 150 W AC/DC power supply accepts 100–240 V AC input, while a separate 11.5 V DC input supports connection to the USP-RPS for power redundancy. This secondary input provides an additional power path when the system is integrated with the compatible redundant power equipment. The maximum device consumption is 150 W, with up to 125 W allocated to installed drives, helping planners evaluate the power requirements of the complete storage configuration. The system operates between −5 and 40 °C and supports 5–95% non-condensing humidity, defining the environmental conditions required around the rack. UNAS Pro 4 is NDAA compliant and carries FCC, CE, and IC certifications, supporting installations where these procurement and regulatory requirements apply.
