Teltonika RUT142 Industrial RS232 Router

The Teltonika RUT142 is a compact industrial Ethernet router designed for reliable connectivity in harsh environments. Housed in sturdy anodized aluminum and offering an IP30-rated rugged design, it supports temperatures from –40 °C to +75 °C. Equipped with two 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports (LAN and WAN with Auto MDI/MDIX), an RS-232 serial DB9 interface, and Wi-Fi 4 (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) supporting both Access Point and Station modes, the router simplifies integration with both modern and legacy equipment. It comes equipped with a built-in DIN-rail mounting bracket for quick and secure installation in industrial enclosures, as well as a 3-pin terminal block supporting a 9–30 VDC power input. In addition, the router can be powered via passive PoE over spare Ethernet pairs. Clearly visible status LEDs for WAN, LAN, and power allow instant monitoring of device operation without accessing the interface. For improved reliability and ease of service, the unit also features a grounding screw and a dedicated reset button for rapid restoration of factory settings during maintenance or troubleshooting.

Powered by RutOS (OpenWrt-based), the RUT142 delivers powerful routing, wireless, and security features. Its Wi-Fi supports up to 50 simultaneous users and advanced protocols like mesh (802.11s), fast roaming (802.11r), BSS transition management (802.11v), and radio resource measurement (802.11k). For wired networks, it supports static and dynamic routing (BGP, OSPF v2, RIP, EIGRP, NHRP), VLAN separation, traffic monitoring and Smart Queue (SQM) for QoS. The security stack includes firewall, NAT, DMZ, pre-shared keys, X.509 certificates, TACACS+, RADIUS, web filtering, attack prevention (DDoS, port scanning), plus flexible access control. It even supports DNS over HTTPS, DDNS for over 25 providers, and fully managed via Web UI, SSH, SNMP, MQTT, JSON-RPC, RMS, and CLI.

The Teltonika RUT142 is tailored for industrial automation, remote monitoring, and smart infrastructure applications. It supports a wide range of industry-standard communication protocols, including Modbus TCP/RTU, DLMS, DNP3, and OPC UA, ensuring easy integration with SCADA systems, metering devices, and process control networks. Data can be transmitted securely via HTTP(S), MQTT, or Azure MQTT, while the built-in MQTT gateway and Modbus-to-MQTT bridging simplify IoT deployments. For centralized administration, the RUT142 offers remote management through Teltonika RMS, TR-069, SNMP (v1/v2/v3), or JSON-RPC, enabling firmware updates, configuration backups, system log access, and automated alerts. Hardware is powered by a Mediatek 580 MHz CPU with 128 MB RAM and 16 MB flash memory, with customization options via SDK. Additional features include FOTA updates, SNMP traps, remote reboot, and native cloud integrations with platforms such as Azure IoT Hub and Cumulocity for streamlined large-scale deployments.
