21 dBi Dish Antenna
The RF elements StarterDish 21 UM is a directional parabolic dish antenna designed for CPE applications operating in the 5150–5950 MHz frequency range. With 21 dBi gain, it provides a focused radiation pattern for wireless connections where precise antenna direction is important. Its parabolic reflector concentrates the antenna's coverage into a defined direction, with a beamwidth of 11° in both azimuth and elevation at the −3 dB level. This directional characteristic makes antenna alignment an important part of installation, as the dish must be oriented toward the intended wireless connection. The StarterDish 21 UM combines this focused antenna design with a waveguide interface for connecting compatible wireless equipment.
The antenna is compatible with several wireless platforms, including Ubiquiti PrismStation 5AC, IsoStation 5AC, and IsoStation M5, as well as Mimosa C5x. RF elements StarterAdapter SMA is also supported, providing another connection option within the manufacturer's antenna system. These compatibility options allow the same dish antenna design to be used with different supported wireless platforms while retaining its directional characteristics. Rather than requiring a conventional coaxial cable connection at the antenna interface, the StarterDish 21 UM uses a waveguide port. The product is supplied as an economical five-pack, providing five identical directional antennas for installations requiring multiple units.
Outdoor Installation
The StarterDish 21 UM is designed for outdoor installation, combining a steel reflector with mounting hardware and an adjustable mounting arrangement. The antenna is assembled before installation and can be mounted on poles with diameters ranging from 20 to 55 mm, with the manufacturer recommending a diameter as close to 55 mm as possible. Once mounted, the dish allows elevation adjustment of ±15°, enabling the installer to refine its vertical orientation toward the intended connection. This adjustment is particularly relevant to the antenna's narrow radiation pattern, where alignment plays an important role in directing the signal. The mounting arrangement provides a practical way to position and adjust the dish without changing the antenna's basic construction.
The antenna incorporates UV-resistant ABS plastic, aluminium, steel, zinc-plated steel, and stainless steel hardware. Its IP65 protection rating and operating temperature range of −35 °C to +55 °C define the environmental conditions for outdoor use. The structure is rated to withstand wind speeds of up to 160 km/h, an important consideration when selecting an exposed mounting location. However, StarterDish antennas are not recommended for particularly harsh environments, such as coastal areas, locations exposed to chimney gases, chemical factories, or volcanic environments, where premature oxidation of the antenna body may occur. For these conditions, RF elements recommends its UltraDish antenna range instead.
