The Ubiquiti UniFi Switch 8 PoE is a compact, Layer 2 managed Ethernet switch designed for small offices, retail spaces, classrooms, and home business networks that require Power over Ethernet in a quiet, space-efficient form factor. It features 8 Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports, four of which support PoE+, allowing direct power delivery to access points, IP cameras, VoIP phones, and other PoE-enabled devices without additional power injectors. With a total PoE power budget of 52W and up to 30W per PoE+ port, the switch can reliably support multiple powered devices simultaneously.

The fanless cooling design ensures completely silent operation, making the switch ideal for noise-sensitive environments such as offices, meeting rooms, or residential installations. Heat is dissipated passively, with low thermal output of 27.3 BTU/hr (excluding PoE). The switch supports desktop placement or wall mounting, offering installation flexibility in constrained spaces. Its lightweight polycarbonate enclosure keeps the total weight at just 295 g, while still providing durability for continuous operation. Power is supplied via an external 60W AC/DC adapter, using a DC input voltage range of 50–57V, ensuring stable power delivery for both the switch and connected PoE devices. Despite its compact size, the UniFi Switch 8 PoE delivers strong Layer 2 performance suitable for modern Gigabit networks. It provides a switching capacity of 16 Gbps, combined with a total non-blocking throughput of 8 Gbps, ensuring that all ports can operate at full speed simultaneously without congestion. With a forwarding rate of up to 12 million packets per second, the switch efficiently handles high packet loads from real-time applications such as voice, video, and surveillance traffic. A MAC address table supporting up to 8,000 entries allows stable operation in networks with a large number of connected devices, while the 0.5 MB packet buffer helps smooth traffic bursts and reduce packet loss under load.

The switch supports up to 1,000 VLANs, enabling logical network segmentation for improved security, traffic isolation, and performance optimization. This makes it suitable for environments where corporate, guest, and IoT traffic must be separated on the same physical infrastructure. Advanced Layer 2 capabilities include jumbo frame support, which improves efficiency for data-intensive workloads, as well as port mirroring for traffic analysis and troubleshooting. LACP link aggregation allows multiple ports to be combined into a single logical link, increasing bandwidth and providing link redundancy where required. The UniFi Switch 8 PoE is managed through the UniFi Network application (version 7.2.94 or later), providing centralized configuration, monitoring, and control via Ethernet. The intuitive UniFi interface allows administrators to deploy and manage the switch alongside other UniFi devices from a single dashboard. Security and traffic control are handled through a rich set of Layer 2 features. These include 802.1X authentication, MAC-based access control lists, MAC address blocking, and port-based isolation, which help prevent unauthorized access and lateral movement within the network. DHCP snooping and guarding protect against rogue DHCP servers, while IP-based ACLs enable granular traffic filtering.

For voice and multimedia traffic, the switch supports Voice VLAN and LLDP-MED, ensuring proper device identification and traffic prioritization. Advanced IGMP functionality, including IGMP Snooping, Querier, Fast Leave, and Router Port, ensures efficient delivery of multicast traffic used in IPTV, video distribution, and IP-based audio-video systems. Traffic stability is maintained through loop protection, broadcast and multicast rate limiting, traffic storm control, flow control, and outgoing traffic rate limits, preventing network disruptions caused by misconfigurations or faulty devices. The Virtual Network Override feature allows per-port virtual network assignment, even when default network policies differ.
