Double Shielded RG58/U Coaxial Cable (Improved low loss version)
RG58/U is a widely used within the coaxial cable range. Known for its reliability and flexibility, RG58/U is a globally recognized standard for general-purpose RF applications. It offers a cost-effective, lightweight solution for frequencies up to 6 GHz (up to 1Ghz for a single shielded version), making it ideal for test equipment, radio communications, and low-power signal transmission.
The RG58/U double shielded cable (similar to LMR195) was created to achieve much better performance than the standard RG58. This was achieved by using a thicker 1mm solid center conductor and a tighter braid with an additional layer of aluminium foil. RG58/U product is perfect in connecting various RF, WIFI or mobile equipment up to 10-15 meters away and CB radio equipment up to 20-25 meters away.
How is the RG58/U low loss figures achieved?
This is achieved due to the cable construction specifications. The center conductor uses a high conductivity, Solid Bare copper conductor material. The dielectric is gas injected, foamed Polyethylene which helps achieve up to 82% Velocity of Propagation. The Dielectric has a Aluminum foil outer conductor, which is chemically bonded on to it. Due to the cable construction, the attenuation is significantly lower as compared to single shielded coaxial cables: RF shielding of our RG58/U is >80 dB as compared to 20-30 dB for regular RG58.
RG58/U coaxial cable comes with a UV resistant, flexible PVC sheath. This helps allow the cable to bend with much less force than that of standard cable with PE or LSZH sheath.
RG58/U is designed to operate excellent from DC up to 6GHz. For any frequency band at UHF/VHF and above, RG58/U series is the obvious choice.
