Compact Access Point
The MikroTik cAP 2nD is a compact 2.4 GHz ceiling access point intended for discreet wireless coverage in public and commercial interiors such as hotels, airports, and shopping centres. Its round enclosure measures 138 mm in diameter and only 31 mm in height, helping it blend into the surrounding ceiling rather than dominate the room. The integrated dual-chain wireless system supports 802.11b/g/n standards and uses a built-in 2 dBi antenna, providing a self-contained design without external antenna hardware. A single 10/100 Mbit/s Fast Ethernet port with Auto-MDI/X connects the access point to the wired network while automatically accommodating the Ethernet cable type.
The device runs RouterOS with a Level 4 licence and is built around a 650 MHz QCA9533 processor, supported by 64 MB of memory and 16 MB of Flash storage. This platform provides the operating environment for wireless and network management directly on the unit. Five status LEDs and one user LED offer visible operating feedback, while the tested operating range from -40 °C to +70 °C allows deployment in locations exposed to substantial temperature variation. Country regulations may limit the available wireless frequency range, so the final channel selection depends on local requirements. Together, the ceiling-oriented housing, integrated radio, Ethernet interface, and RouterOS platform make the cAP 2nD a focused access point for centrally planned indoor wireless installations.
Centralised Network Management
The cAP 2nD supports MikroTik CAPsMAN, allowing multiple compatible access points to be controlled from one central location. This is useful in installations where wireless settings must be managed consistently across several areas, because configuration and oversight can be handled through a shared management point rather than separately on every device. CAPsMAN does not require a dedicated PC or Mac to operate. It can run on an existing RouterBOARD device already present in the network, reducing the need for a separate controller machine and keeping the management function within the MikroTik infrastructure. This arrangement is particularly practical for sites with several access points, where a common control system simplifies coordinated deployment and ongoing administration.
Power can be supplied through 802.3af/at PoE across an 11-57 V input range, so network connectivity and power can share the Ethernet connection. With a maximum power consumption of 4 W, the access point keeps demand modest. The package includes the components required for installation: a ceiling or wall mount, a PoE injector, a 24 V 0.2 A power adapter, screws, and screw anchors. These accessories support PoE operation or use of the supplied adapter, while the mounting parts enable direct placement on a wall or ceiling. By combining centralised management with flexible power input and mounting hardware, the cAP 2nD can be added to a managed wireless installation without a dedicated controller computer or separate installation accessories.
