Tri-Band WiFi Adapter
The AWUS036AXML is a tri-band WiFi 6/6E USB adapter designed to add high-speed wireless networking and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity to a compatible computer. It operates across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands and supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax standards, giving it broad compatibility with current WiFi environments while enabling access to WiFi 6/6E networks. With a compatible WiFi 6E router, the adapter supports wireless throughput up to 3000 Mbps, while 800–1200 Mbps is a more common speed range with many router stream configurations. This combination makes it a practical upgrade for systems that need access to multiple generations of WiFi connectivity through a single USB adapter.
Its 2x2 wireless design combines the available frequency bands with channel widths of 20 or 40 MHz on 2.4 GHz and up to 80 MHz on 5 GHz and 6 GHz. Maximum data rates are up to 600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and up to 1200 Mbps on each of the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, allowing the adapter to use different bands according to the capabilities of the connected network. This makes the device suitable for users who need a USB-based wireless upgrade that can work with both established WiFi standards and newer WiFi 6/6E infrastructure, while Bluetooth 5.2 adds a separate short-range wireless connection option for compatible peripherals and devices.
Flexible USB Connectivity
The AWUS036AXML connects through a USB Type-C interface using USB 3.2 Gen 1 and is supplied with a 2-in-1 USB-C / USB-A power and data cable. This allows the adapter to be used with computers equipped with either USB-C or USB-A ports without requiring a different cable for each connector type. The included screen clip provides an additional placement option for attaching the adapter to a laptop or monitor, helping keep the device positioned close to the computer while maintaining access to its external antennas. Together, these connection and placement options make the adapter easier to integrate with different desktop and laptop port layouts.
Wireless reception and transmission are handled by two detachable 5 dBi external antennas connected through two RP-SMA female connectors. Because the antennas are removable, the supplied antennas can be replaced with higher-gain alternatives when a longer connection distance is required. This gives the adapter more flexibility than a fixed-antenna USB device when the installation benefits from a different antenna configuration. The unit operates at 5 V with a maximum power consumption of 2.7 W and supports Windows and Linux operating systems. Its specified operating temperature range is -25 °C to 75 °C, allowing the adapter to be used across a broad range of ambient conditions supported by the product.
