Zyxel Nebula 5G Outdoor/Indoor Router FWA70

The Nebula FWA70 is a 5G FWA outdoor/indoor router designed to bring high-speed mobile broadband to locations where wired internet is unavailable, unreliable, or used only as a backup connection. It supports 5G NR in both NSA and SA modes, with theoretical download rates of up to 7.01 Gbps in 5G SA and 5.67 Gbps in 5G NSA, depending on the network environment. The router also supports 4G LTE, giving it flexibility when 5G coverage is not available. This makes it suitable for homes, small offices, retail sites, and underserved or rural areas that need a practical alternative to fixed-line service and a dependable connection path for daily network access.

Four embedded directional 5G/4G antennas provide focused signal reception, with peak gain up to 9 dBi in the ultra-high band and up to 7 dBi in the high and middle bands. This antenna design supports stable connectivity when the router is aimed toward a suitable mobile base station. The Zyxel One app helps identify the best 5G placement, making installation more practical in real environments where signal quality can change by position. A 2.5GbE PoE LAN port carries both data and power through one cable, reducing cabling complexity while providing a multi-gigabit wired link for downstream network equipment such as a firewall, access point, or switch.

The FWA70 is built for flexible placement in both indoor and outdoor environments. It can be placed on a desk, mounted on a wall, attached to a window, or installed on a pole, allowing the same router to fit different site layouts. Wall-mount and pole-mount kits are included, while other mounting accessories are available separately. Its compact housing, measuring 150 × 68 × 200 mm, supports installations where available space is limited but a directional 5G connection is required. This flexibility is useful when the best radio position is not the same as the most convenient place for network equipment, especially at sites that must balance signal quality with clean installation.

The enclosure is rated IP55 for dust and water protection, helping the router handle light rain, wind, and everyday outdoor exposure. It operates from -30 °C to 55 °C and supports humidity from 5% to 95% RH, non-condensing, giving it a wide environmental range for external placement. Surge protection and Level 12 wind resistance add resilience for pole or outdoor mounting, where weather and electrical disturbances can affect equipment. The package includes a standard 802.3af/at 2.5G PoE injector, a 10 m flat Ethernet cable, a 1.8 m Cat.6 Ethernet cable, a flat cable gland, wall-mount screws, and hose clamps for pole mounting, so core installation components are ready for common deployment options.

Network operation can be handled locally or remotely through the web GUI, HTTP or HTTPS management, SSH, and firmware upgrade functions. The router also supports TR-069 remote firmware upgrade management with the TR-181 data model, TR-143 remote throughput testing, APN management, PIN and PUK management, network selection, network preference, and operating frequency band selection. The Zyxel One app supports easy installation and local management, while device azimuth reporting and power consumption reporting help users check alignment and monitor energy use. An advanced power-saving mode and recycled paper packaging support the product’s sustainability-focused design, while keeping operational visibility available through software tools rather than separate measuring equipment.

For cloud-managed deployments, the FWA70 works with Nebula, where registration, configuration, monitoring, dashboards, location maps, floor plan visualization, and over-the-air firmware management are available through the platform. Depending on the selected Nebula license plan, additional options include more administrator accounts, advanced firmware scheduling, automatic network topology, email users and alert notifications, organizational audit logs, backup and restore configuration, and priority Nebula support. Network functions include IPv4/IPv6 dual stack, DHCP server, NAT/NAPT, port forwarding, port triggering, DMZ/ALG, router mode, bridge mode with IP pass-through, Dynamic DNS for the first APN, firewall control, SPI, DoS attack detection, application-level firewall, and LAN MAC, IP, and URL filtering for controlled access.
