Teltonika TRM142 Industrial 4G Modem

The Teltonika TRM142 is an industrial 4G LTE modem designed to connect equipment with serial interfaces to mobile networks. It is particularly useful for upgrading existing RS232 devices with cellular connectivity without replacing the equipment itself. Supporting LTE Cat 4, the modem delivers download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps on LTE FDD networks. It also supports 3G and 2G technologies, allowing operation across different mobile network generations. The TRM142 is intended for applications in industrial automation, energy and utilities, enterprise systems, retail, and smart city infrastructure, where existing equipment may need mobile network access.

The modem combines an RS232 interface with a DB9 connector and a micro USB interface that provides a virtual network connection. The RS232 interface supports RTS/CTS hardware flow control, making it suitable for connecting serial equipment that uses these signals for communication. A Mini SIM (2FF) slot accommodates the SIM card required for mobile connectivity, while a dedicated SMA connector provides the connection for a cellular antenna. Together, these interfaces make the TRM142 a practical option for integrating existing serial devices into LTE-based communication systems while retaining their original RS232 connections.

The TRM142 provides several options for connecting and managing the modem within an existing equipment setup. Its micro USB interface can be used as a virtual network interface, while the RS232 port accommodates equipment with traditional serial connections. For software management, the modem works with Windows Connection Manager and Modem Manager for Linux. USB serial drivers are available for supported Windows, Linux, and Android versions, enabling integration with different host operating systems. Separate status indicators for power, network, and mobile connectivity make it possible to check the modem's operating state directly on the device. A dedicated reset button provides access to reboot, user-default reset, and factory-reset functions.

For industrial installation, the TRM142 operates from a 9–30 V DC power supply connected through a four-pin industrial power socket. The power input incorporates protection against overvoltage, reverse polarity, and surges. Power consumption remains below 1 W when idle and below 5 W at maximum load. The anodized aluminium housing is rated IP30 and supports operation at temperatures from −40 °C to +75 °C. Installation options include DIN rail mounting, wall mounting, and placement on a flat surface, with an additional mounting kit required for each option. These arrangements allow the modem to be installed according to the available mounting location and power connection.
