Reliable LTE Connectivity
The Teltonika RUT281 is a compact and highly reliable LTE router designed to ensure stable connectivity across global mobile networks. Equipped with a trusted Telit LTE Cat 4 modem, it delivers consistent performance for professional and industrial applications where uninterrupted communication is essential. The router supports 4G LTE speeds of up to 150 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload, while also maintaining backward compatibility with 3G networks offering up to 21 Mbps download and 5.76 Mbps upload, as well as 2G connectivity for maximum coverage in remote or legacy environments. One of the key advantages of the RUT281 is its support for both traditional SIM cards and consumer-grade eSIM technology. The integrated eSIM functionality allows users to store up to seven profiles, enabling flexible operator switching without physical SIM replacement.
The eSIM bootstrap feature simplifies deployment by allowing initial profile download directly to the device, reducing setup time and operational complexity. Please note that data plans are not included. To ensure continuous connectivity in demanding environments, the router features WAN failover functionality. This mechanism automatically switches to an alternative connection source in case of primary network failure, minimizing downtime and maintaining system availability. Such capability is particularly important in remote monitoring, industrial automation, and IoT deployments. With its compact dimensions of 83 × 25 × 74 mm, the RUT281 is ideal for installations where space is limited. Despite its small size, it provides robust networking capabilities, making it a dependable solution for a wide range of professional applications requiring stable and flexible mobile connectivity.
Secure Data Management
The RUT281 delivers extensive networking capabilities tailored for complex and scalable infrastructures. It supports a wide range of routing protocols, including static routing and dynamic routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF v2, RIP v1/v2, EIGRP, and NHRP. In addition, policy-based routing allows administrators to define traffic paths based on specific rules, ensuring efficient data flow across different network segments. For local network management, the router includes a fully configurable DHCP server with both static and dynamic IP allocation, DHCP relay functionality, and advanced lease handling using MAC address wildcards. VLAN support, both port-based and tag-based, enables logical segmentation of network traffic, improving organization and security in multi-device environments.
Traffic optimization is achieved through QoS and Smart Queue Management, which prioritize data based on source, destination, protocol, or service. Wireless connectivity is provided via IEEE 802.11b/g/n (Wi-Fi 4), supporting Access Point and Station modes, with the ability to handle up to 50 simultaneous users. Security is a core component of the RUT281. The router includes a preconfigured firewall accessible via WebUI, while advanced users can implement unlimited custom configurations via CLI. Features such as NAT, NAT-T, NAT64, and DMZ provide flexible network control. Additional protection mechanisms include DDoS prevention, SYN flood protection, and safeguards against SSH and HTTP/HTTPS attacks, along with port scan detection. Authentication methods include pre-shared keys, X.509 certificates, TACACS+, and RADIUS integration. OpenVPN support allows multiple clients and a server to operate simultaneously with a wide range of encryption methods, ensuring secure remote communication.
Industrial Design
The RUT281 combines a durable industrial design with flexible control and monitoring capabilities, making it suitable for long-term deployment in demanding environments. Its aluminium housing with plastic panels ensures durability while maintaining a lightweight structure. The device is rated IP30, providing protection against solid objects and making it suitable for indoor industrial installations. Multiple mounting options, including DIN rail, wall mounting, and flat surface placement, allow integration into various setups such as control cabinets and remote installations. The router features two Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbps), SMA connectors for LTE antennas, and an RP-SMA connector for Wi-Fi, ensuring stable signal reception.
Powering flexibility is achieved through a 4-pin industrial DC connector supporting 9 to 30 VDC, with built-in reverse polarity and surge protection above 31 VDC. Passive PoE input via LAN1 offers an alternative powering method for simplified installations. The device maintains low power consumption, operating below 2 W in idle mode and under 4 W at peak load. The RUT281 is equipped with digital input and output interfaces, enabling integration with external devices and automation systems. The input detects voltage ranges for logic states, while the output supports open collector configuration. The I/O juggler allows users to define automated actions triggered by specific conditions, with notifications via SMS, email, or RMS. Management features include Web UI, CLI access, SSH support, SMS control, and remote firmware updates via FOTA. Detailed logging and monitoring ensure full visibility and control over device performance, making it a reliable solution for industrial networking.
